Spending 10 years working with leading physicians and authorities in the largest HIV/AIDS treatment center in the country. While working at that facility Dr. Roe was asked to travel to Berlin, Germany where she presented her poster and spoke at the 1993 International Conference on HIV/ AIDS.
As a registered nurse,she spent several years providing care to both AIDS and cancer patients before she began treating patients with severe and chronic pain at a hospital pain clinic. Here she worked closely with other physicians providing care for those suffering from all types of physical pain including back pain, joint and muscle pain, headaches, and migraines.
While working at one of the first pain clinics in the area Dr. Roe was invited by Dr. Liang, President of the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, to attend a seminar on Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine. Seeing how acupuncture can help and treat those suffering from pain, Dr. Roe was accepted to the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine one of the most recognized acupuncture schools in the country with an elite group of colleagues on the cutting edge of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
To practice in Florida Dr Roe's has not only met all of the requirements,(see below) she exceeds those requirements and has a diplomat in Chinese Herbology which is not a requirement in Florida.
The current requirements in Florida, practitioners of Tradition Chinese Medicine are certified by the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as Diplomat of Acupuncture (Dipl. Ac.). Currently requirements call for five years of college level schooling, including Western arts and sciences, study of Acupuncture theory, diagnosis and treatment. Practical application of modalities in the clinic setting is part of the 3-year internship. The national board exams and Clean Needle Technique are required for licensing to practice as an Acupuncture Physician (A.P.) by the Department of Health Florida Board of Acupuncture. Practitioners are required to display their license. Florida practitioners may use the designation AP, Acupuncture Physician or DOM, Doctor of Oriental Medicine.
